A new silicone medical tape from diversified technology company 3M has been recognized as one of the 100 most innovative, high quality and revolutionary ideas of the year by Popular Science magazine. The US publication for science and technology selected 3M Kind Removal Silicone Tape as a winner in its annual Best of Whats New Awards.

The tape, recently launched in the UK by 3Ms Health Care Markets Division, features a new silicone adhesive technology which provides an optimal balance between reliable adhesion and gentle skin removal. "The tape offers reliable fixation and can be repositioned and reapplied, yet is easily and cleanly removed with minimal disruption to fragile skin layers1", said Paul Middleton-Walker, 3M Commercial Marketing Team. "These skin-friendly characteristics are particularly important to very young or elderly patients, or where patients require repeat applications of tape to the same part of the body, such as when undergoing dialysis. 3M Kind Removal Silicone Tape is colored pale blue for easy identification and is available in 5m rolls in two widths, 2.5cm and 5cm. Its bi-directional tear allows tailoring of the tape to best fit body contours or to meet the challenges of difficult taping situations on fragile and at-risk skin. It is prescribable and listed in Part 1XA section of the UK Drug Tariff.
