H.B. Fuller Unveils Rakoll 4330, Newer Generation of Foamable Water-based Adhesives

H.B. Fuller announces the release of its new generation of foamable water-based adhesives, known as Rakoll 4330. This adhesive technology has been specifically designed to help manufacturers meet the increased market demands around surface quality. Pressure for continuous improvement to surface quality and finish has been on the increase in recent years both within the woodworking industry and from end-users.

H.B. Fuller launched this new generation of adhesives at an industry symposium, run within its European Technology Center in Nienburg, at the end of 2012. The new technology was well received by furniture manufacturers at the symposium, and Rakoll 4330 will be showcased again at ZOW in February and at LIGNA in May 2013.

Rakoll 4330 adhesive is a one component water based PVAc glue which is applied as a homogenous and stable micro foam. In this form the adhesive reduces the swelling of fibres and the associated water penetration in the cells, resulting in higher surface quality. Rakoll 4330 adhesive has been designed to be used in conjunction with special foaming equipment and H.B. Fuller has worked closely with leading original equipment manufacturers, such as Heitec-MST, in its development.

Fuller in Europe, explains: "Making sure our customers have the best solution possible is at the heart of what we do andis one of our main objectives. Surface quality is a complex issue and has been a high priority for customers and machine manufacturers over recent years. Thanks to this new technology, we are helping our customers to further improve surface quality by using a foam based adhesive. The water is not absorbed immediately into the fibres, minimising the extent of the fibres swell and thus creating the effect of a smoother finish."

Rakoll 4330 adhesive also delivers improved wetting, longer open time and lower coat weight compared to non-foamable urea-formaldehyde based alternatives. Rakoll® 4330 fulfills the DIN EN 204: D3 requirements and is certified by the ift Rosenheim.
